This album is called Disfarmer, and it's by Bill Frisell. Frisell, you may know: He's a guitar tactician with warmth and a composer of unclassifiable songs. As a solo artist, Frisell is known largely for drawing upon the affects of Americana—folk, country and western, what-have-you—in ways you wouldn't immediately call jazz, but which draw. Reply

Reception. The Allmusic review by Thom Jurek awarded the album 4 stars, stating, "the players are all excellent, but nobody here, not even Frisell, shines. Still, it is a pleasant recording to listen to if not hang on to. It floats and hovers about the room as a peaceful backdrop. Disfarmer is to be taken as a soundtrack rather than as a Frisell album proper, and listened to as a series of Genre: Folk jazz, New Acoustic, Americana. Reply

Frisell’s most recent Nonesuch disc was The Best of Bill Frisell, Vol. 1: Folk Songs, the first in a series of compilations drawn from his extensive Nonesuch catalogue. London’s Independent called it an album of "beautiful, ringing musicality: 15 pieces of fathomless depth played with the freshness and simplicity that only genius brings/5(16). Reply
